For losing weight the rule is you must execise enough to work up a good sweat for 10 mins. / day

The hard and fast rule for me is to do aerobics for a minimum of 20 mins/ day.

I use Richard Simmons Broadway Blast off. You exercise to the songs from Broadway Shows. I like his tapes and DVDs because they are more like dancing than exercise once you get broken in  to them depending on where you are starting from. Because it is fun you look forward to it.

When the weight loss slows down  or you reach a plateau you use Broadway Sweat which is 45 mins. Also Fun never boring. The other reason I like Richards exercises is because he has people that are slim due to success, heavy extremely heavy old young, men women he even envolves their children.

For simple toning use Tone up on Broadway. They have stretch bands you use which can be adjusted one band in the handles for beginers, 2 for intermediate and 3 for more advanced. I have not seen bands exactly like these in Sports stores but they might have them in Marshalls where they have the palates equipment and tapes or now DVD's.

If you should decide you want a machine I suggest total gym.

1. It keeps your body in proper alignment which prevents posibility of injury.

2. It streches your vertibrae to eliminate any back pain etc.

3. It folds down taking up less room.

4. You start with it almost to the floor. As the exercises require little or no effort you raise it up one notch. Now this is important to realize. This means it never means more time for exercising just more weight. The weight you are lifting is your own pluse the increased elevation.

You can do two different muscle groups and alternate them and then take Sunday off. Or you can do them all 3 days a week. But remember resting the muscles every other day is just as important as the exercising.

Learn to read your body's response. You will learn that a warm glowing feeling is good. Burning pain means you over did it. I have a shoulder which was dislocated when I was young. If I was doing a shoulder press and it would not push straight I would just not do a shoulder press that day. If it went straight I did,

It works. Two years ago I went from 170 lbs. and a size 14 to 110 and a size two. I have remained slim and trim. Don't expect to achieve a size as small as two. I am only 5 ft tall and I have a very tiny frame. It was considered border line for normal delivery when I had my children. P.S . I was 63 when I lost that weight.  Stay encouraged and enjoy feeling yournger than you did when you were in your 20's and doing all you had to do when you had little ones at home.

Check with your doctor before exercising. If you follow it through he will be asking you how you did it.

I did check to see if the Broadway Series is still available and it is both on Amazon and On E-bay.  3.97 - 5.00 for single tapes and  Sets of Blast off and Broadway Sweat for $9.99
